Apple has decided to freely distribute protective cases to all customers of the latest iPhone 4, to compensate for its debacle on the wrongly structured wireless signal.
More than three million of the iPhone 4’s customers and also new buyers will be eligible for this compensation. Also, even the people who have already bought the $29 “Bumper” cases will be refunded with the case’s money.
Normally, phones with wireless signals catching ability have an antenna inside the phone’s body. In the iPhone 4, however, Apple has taken a risk with a new design which uses portions of the phone’s outer casing as the antenna.
This design saves the space inside, with all the features tightly packed inside the body of the phone, thereby giving it its slim and sleek look.
However, this also means that if a certain spot on the lower left edge of the case is covered or blocked, the wireless signal also gets tampered with.
This policy of Apple’s free distribution of cases is a good and wise remedy to this huge problem of signal - loss problem for the iPhone 4.
