Yet another one of Johnson and Johnson’s plants has been raided and has been declared as unfit for drug manufacture. The company is already under much pressure and restraint because of its hassles with the government. The government’s primary concern was the unfavourable environment at their drug-making plant at Pennsylvania where they manufacture medicines for children, mainly cold and pain drugs.
One of their plants is located in Lancaster. The Food and Drug Administration has recently examined this plant. However, after the probe, the plant could not get a clean chit because of the circumstances at the site, claims the company. However, the Food and Drug Administration regional office in Philadelphia hasn’t confirmed any such claims. They have not returned any calls that had been made to them seeking details of the report made at the Johnson and Johnson Pennsylvania plant.
This particular plant was administered by Johnson & Johnson and Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals. Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals is a drug maker. This plant manufactures over the counter drugs as well as non-prescription products. These medicines include heartburn relievers Pepcid and Mylanta. They also manufacture multi-symptom relief drugs like Imodium.
The company has said that a problem will arise in manufacture. There is bound to be a severe shortage of drugs owing to the manufacturing problems at the plant. They claim that they have received a Form 483 which one a plant receives after a Food and Drugs Administration probing gives them unsatisfactory results at par with proper manufacturing regulations and techniques.
Thus, Johnson and Johnson will take at least a year’s time to take action and fix the problems cited by the Food and Drugs Administration. Till then, the customers will have to deal and bear with the problems this probing has brought up.
