Carrefour Dismisses Claims of South East Asia Store Being ClosedThe giant French supermarket, Carrefour, has dismissed reports, claiming that its stores in Malaysia and Singapore will shut down following the revelations that it would close down its Southeast Asian outlets.

It was also posted that Carrefour had recently launched four hypermarkets in Malaysia this year and plans to open four more by the end of this year.

On Tuesday, produce industry website, Fruit Net, posted that the supermarket chain is under plans to sell its interests in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, for a deal that worth over 1.0 billion dollars.

"Carrefour Malaysia and Singapore denies any store closure in Malaysia and in Singapore, reminding that it is business as usual for every store", the company posted in a statement late Wednesday.

"In 2010 itself, four Carrefour hypermarkets have been opened in Malaysia, and another four additional hypermarkets are slated to be opened by year end".

The company's website has uncovered that it owns 22 stores in Malaysia, two in Singapore and 40 in Thailand. It posted that sale of assets in these countries is always under consideration as the Company possess other priorities for investment as well.

Asia is claimed to have formed nearly 7.6% of Carrefour‘s total net sales of 85.96 billion Euros (108.25 billion dollars) in 2009, while Latin America accounts for 13.7% and Europe for 35.7% excluding France.
