China Mobile Ltd., which is the world’s most leading phone carrier, has shown interest in investing in Africa, where it can increase services in country areas, Chairman Wang Jianzhou said.
The Company does not have any acquirement targets in Africa yet and has not been able to recognize a specific area on the continent where it would like to make its investment, Wang said in an interview at the Fortune Global Forum in Cape Town, today.
China Mobile is looking for investments and acquirements, so as to revitalize profit growth and develop its overseas operations. Parent Company, China Mobile Communications Corp. purchased Pakistan’s Paktel Ltd., which was its first overseas acquirement, in the year 2007.
We are interested in doing trade in Africa, but we have no perspective Company now, Wang said.
The firm is looking for options for which, it will make use of its experience in expanding its services in the countryside of this continent.
The Beijing-based Company this year, settled to purchase a 20% stake in Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Co., a move that Wang said will help improve its wireless payment and finance operations.
The intention is to move the industry forward towards attaining success in its region.
