A new research study has revealed that breathing polluted air from car exhaust can lead to a stroke. But many feel that much more study is needed to confirm the results of the study.
Researchers claimed that even a temporary exposure to few pollutants can lead to "ischemic" strokes. This is the most common type of stroke, which takes place when a clot interrupts blood flow to the brain. The data for this study was collected from hospitals around Copenhagen in Denmark.
The latest study has been reported in the European Heart Journal. A similar study was also done in the United Kingdom that showed a possible link between long-term exposure to road pollution and stroke death rates.
Experts feel that road pollution is the main source of exposure to pollution in most of the people, who have suffered a stroke. Others have also stressed this is a major reason for stroke in people.
Almost 4.4 million people die every year due to strokes across the world. In the U. S. alone, 700,000 get a stroke every year and it costs the country almost $43 billion.
Experts feel that exposure to air pollution can increase the risk of various problems like heart disease, breathing problems and various other complications.
