The couple, according to scientists, ought to be aware of the high threats of congenital malformation if they are planning to opt for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment. A study had been conducted in
33 French centers indexed for ART, by a clinical geneticist, Dr. Geraldine Viot, at the Maternite Port Royal hospital, Paris, France.
Records were collected about the dominance of malformations found and was evaluated with the data attained from national registers and in published papers. They were accompanied by questionnaires completed by parents as well as the pediatrician.
In 4.24% of kids, this major congenital malformation was found, whereas, only 2% to 3% had been anticipated, as per the previous studies. Also, in the part to a surplus heart diseases and malformations of the uro-genital system, this rate was higher, and was found much more usual in boys.
"Among the minor malformations, we found a five times higher rate of angioma, benign tumors made up of small blood vessels on or near the surface of the skin. These occurred more than twice as frequently in girls than boys. Given that our study is the largest to date, we think that our data are more likely to be statistically representative of the true picture", said Viot.
