The Subaru Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 will be available in the UK in July for about £50,000. It gets a lot of Cosworth-engineered upgrades including the engine, exhaust, suspension, brakes and wheels. Even the car’s styling has been upgraded.

Its 2.5-litre engine now develops 395bhp, which is almost 100bhp more than the standard STI’s. Its speed is quicker than the 2010 Performance Car of the Year, the Audi R8 V10. The car will blast from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds.

The engine will be more flexible in everyday driving and it will make the car quicker around a race track, according to Subaru. The four-wheel-drive system is electronically controlled to ensure maximum traction at all times.

Cosworth has reduced the ride height of the car by 10mm at the front and unique springs and shock absorbers have been fitted into it. The front brakes have also been upgraded, which makes the car behave in a more composed way when pushed to its limits.

Cosworth Impreza has a more aggressive look than the standard STI, as it has lower ride height and new wheels and tyres, in addition to the new front bumper, foglights, mesh grilles and rear spoiler.
