As per the media reports, a new air services agreement has been signed by Singapore's civil aviation authority with three Latin American countries - Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said that the agreement with Peru permits unlimited passenger and cargo flights.
It continued, "The open skies agreement is even more liberal than conventional open skies agreements in that it provides unlimited hubbing rights for cargo operations. Singaporean carriers may utilize these rights and base their aircraft in any point in Peru, and use the point as a hub for cargo operations in third countries without any restriction on destination, frequency or capacity."
With Singapore signing the air services agreement with Ecuador, the carriers are allowed to operate up to 56 weekly passenger flights from both sides, between and beyond the two countries. Apart from this, an open skies arrangement for cargo operations with hubbing rights is also provided by the agreement.
On the other hand, the agreement signed between Singapore and Colombia air services permits carriers from each country to operate up to eight passenger flights and cargo flights weekly.
CAAS said, "The frequencies will increase to 14 weekly flights each by January 2011."
