A significant hike in biomedical output resulted in a jump in Singapore's manufacturing output by 12.4% in July from a year earlier.
Furthermore, a hike was also seen in industry production by 23%, compared with June, on a seasonally adjusted basis.
It was specified by the Economic Development Board on Wednesday, "Output from the biomedical manufacturing cluster more than doubled, leaping 125.4 per cent on- year on the back of a jump in pharmaceuticals."
If biomedicals are excluded, then overall manufacturing output would have plunged 7.4 per cent from a year ago.
Last month also saw the moderation in rapidity of declines in other clusters; with chemicals, electronics and general manufacturing showing low-single digit falls.
Contraction was also seen in output of the transport engineering cluster by 10.2 per cent from a year earlier, because of a plunge in the aerospace, offshore engineering and land transport segments.
Overall, the year-on-year decline in output in the first seven months was 10.3 per cent.
