Various website operators confirmed significant rise in online frauds given to the popularity of online shopping. They reported rise in cheating attempts aimed to tempering website data for credit transfer.
Police arrested four persons, including a 34-year old woman, for carrying out various online-related cheating offences during the current month itself.
Mr. Thomas Teo, the Director of local website SingaporeExpats.com, said, 'Online cheating has been around since the beginning of the Internet, but we've definitely seen more of them as our site became more popular.'
It has been noticed that victims are forced to write off their losses as they are generally not paid even if fraud gets detected despite filing complaint with the Small Claims Tribunal.
