Job Market Adding 34,000 more Workers Decreases Unemployment

It has been reported that about 34,000 employees have been added by the employers in Singapore to their payrolls in the first quarter, as businesses step up employing in tandem with the full-bodied fiscal improvement.

According to the Ministry of Manpower, which released the latest jobs update on Friday morning, this is the third quarterly rise after two quarters of turn down in the first six months of 2009.

With the employment in full swing the adjusted overall unemployment rate fell to 2.2% in March, the lowest level since the first quarter of 2008 when the jobless rate was at 1.9%, and 2.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009.

The redundancy rate fell to 3.2% from a amended 3.3% last December and 4.8% in the third quarter amongst the resident labor force.
