Australian police, notified of the bomb threat at about 2:15 a.m., against Singapore Airlines Ltd, has initiated a probe, as per information provided by the police and the carrier.
Singapore Airlines’ call center in Mumbai got a phone call from an unidentified person, claiming a bomb on board a flight that was scheduled to leave for Melbourne International Airport.
Singapore Airlines spokeswoman, Susan Bredow, said that the carrier put its crew members on board flight SQ227 on alert, and also conducted safety checks to avoid any mishap.
However, the airline came to know after few hours that the call was a hoax, and the passengers were informed about the incident before the flight landed safely at 6 a.m.
The spokeswomen added: "We investigated it (the hoax), felt that the threat was not there, however we took every precaution to make sure the flight was safe and crew and passengers were all safe."
The Boeing 747-400 aircraft was carrying 190 passengers and 20 crew members, who heaved a sigh of relief following its safe landing without any untoward incident.
