According to a new research, an aspirin can lower the pain of a migraine within two hours for over 50% of people. Cochrane Systematic Review used data from 13 studies to conclude.
A single dose of aspirin is helpful in reducing nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light or sound, which are the other symptoms of migraine. But according to a few researchers, aspirin can cause side effects.
A data from 4,222 participants was reviewed and it was found that one in four people who had severe or moderate migraine got rid of the same. If a single dose of 900-1000mg aspirin is taken, the results come within two hours.
One in 10 was relieved of the pain completely by taking placebo. For one in two people, the pain reduced to mild pain in comparison to one in three consuming placebo.
And for one in two people, the headache was reduced to no worse than mild pain, compared to one in three taking placebo. A combination of aspirin and antiemetic managed to reduce the migraine symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
Co-author of the study, Sheena Derry shared that aspirin may not be an effective therapy for every person suffering from acute migraine attacks. She said, “This is largely down to genetic differences. Different people respond to different drugs in different ways, and at different times”.
