Singapore has built its first satellite and is waiting to head to space.

The X-Sat, a micro satellite which is of a size of a refrigerator, is waiting its launch in June or July from India’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre, situated in Andhra Pradesh, 100km to the north of Chennai.

Singapore is believed to be the first Southeast Asian nation that would have its personal locally built satellite in space after the launch of its 120kg satellite.

Final touches are in progress by scientists and engineers from the Nanyang Technological University and DSO National Laboratories which is Singapore’s national defense examine outfit.

The work upon this satellite had begun as early as nine years ago, with planned to launch it in the year 2007. The cutoff date came and went by without any launch, for which, no reasons were mentioned.

Dr. Tan Kim Siew, the Defense Ministry's Permanent Secretary for Defense Development exposed at a scholarship tea session in the starting of this month said that the satellite would be launched this very year.

Dr. Tan is also serving as the Chairman of the Defense Science and Technology Agency and DSO.
