European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co. released its results for fourth quarter as well for the full year 2009 today. The company posted a net loss because of the €1.8 billion cost overrun charge on its delayed A400M military airlifter program, according to the company release.
EADS reported a net loss of €1.05 billion in the fourth quarter of the fiscal ended December 2009, while the company posted a net profit of €490 million in the same period last year. Total revenue for the fourth quarter was reported €13.1 billion, decreasing by 5% comparing to the revenue generated in the same period last year. EBIT in the period was reported negative €1.41 billion. The company also booked a €240 million provision on the Airbus A380 superjumbo jetliner, which failed to meet the production targets since 2005.
For the full year 2009, EADS reported a net loss of €763 million, while in FY 2008 the company posted a net profit of €1.57 billion. Revenue in FY was reported decreased by 1% and was posted to €42.82 billion.
However, Louis Gallois, Co-CEO of EADS, said that the military program of the company is now reported back on track despite the fact that both the programs A380 and A400M are still several years behind schedule. Gallois also said that the company plans to deliver 20 A380 jets this year.
