EU again urges US to negotiate visa waivers with Brussels
The European Union on Friday renewed its appeal to the United States to negotiate its visa waiver programmes with Brussels, rather than with individual member states. But US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano responded that the handful of EU countries whose citizens still need a visa to visit the United States face "different situations".
Singapore workers urged to be better and faster
Sunday, at a community event secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Lim Swee Say, expressed that Singapore workers need to be better and faster.
He specified that Singapore has a better chance in the new world economy, despite other countries competing fiercely with it for the next three to five years.
The three areas on which the Singapore's workforce needs to concentrate, to be in good position, are increasing productivity, improving capabilities and enhancing flexibility, continued the labor chief.
Ethnic unrest trials date denied by China’s Xinjiang govt
Recently, a report in the state media claimed that over 200 people to be put on trial this week, over recent deadly ethnic unrest in the area, have been denied a trial date by the government in northwest China's Xinjiang region on Tuesday.
It was highlighted by the state-run China Daily, on its front page Monday that the trials are being prepared by the People's Intermediate Court in the regional capital Urumqi, amid tight security.
Bilateral ties to be strengthened between Singapore, Australia
Monday saw Singapore and Australia reaffirming that they would boost up bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation on regional and international political, economic and security developments.

The Malaysian government has decided upon to review the policies that will be put forth by the new President elect Barack Obama and then to take upon any further steps regarding the halted Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with the United States.
The Finance Minister of the country Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has opined to study the proposed policies by the President elect of U.S. saying on an optimistic note that the Democratic party that has taken the lead now in the U.S. is “more protectionist.”
