In order to become self sufficient in its water supply, Singapore will considerably ramp up its desalination and NEWater capacity in the next 50 years.

The country’s water demand is expected to become double from 380 million gallons per day, over the next half century.

The increased demand is likely to be met by the improved production of the reclaimed use of NEWater and desalinated water.

Presently, desalinated water and NEWater are two forms of water used to meet only 40 % of the country's water requirements.
